Mathcaddy Radio: Session 8
It has been so long since the last Mathcaddy Radio Session, I'm beginning to suspect that any of my previous "regular" listeners - except Tony Park - have all deleted me from their newsreaders, bookmarks, and wedding invitations. But who cares! I'm not in it because I think people will actually listen! Although I still haven't really figured out why I'm in it...
Anyway, I'm very excited to be back in it. I have about four more sessions all lined up and put together. I can't wait to share them with all of you! (All three of you.)
But I digress.
This session is a collection of songs from the 1970s (except one). I had never heard any of them until the past month (except one). I'm not very structured. Maybe you've guessed that.
Don't let the Beach Boys songs discourage you. These are a couple of mind-blowing tracks and a sound that you most likely haven't heard from them. Most people wouldn't even guess these are the Beach Boys.
I have nothing else to say, so I guess you oughta go ahead and listen up!

I'm working on my own custom RSS with enclosures retriever and just found your podcast. It is the most enjoyable I've found to date.
Nice job.
A few comments.
dc:date isn't standard and I'm looking at pubDate for determining new content. Can you elaborate on use of the other namespace?
Why 3 identical enclosure tags per item? I check for duplicates but they don't need to be there.

Dan, I started the program before the term "podcasting" was used. It was originally just a post on a weblog containing mp3s. Mathcaddy Radio was not an rss feed until this session. This xml is coded using the MovableType "MTEnclosures" plugin.
If you look at the original weblog posts, there are three places in each post where I typically put the link to the mp3 file: the logo, in the post itself, and at the end of the post. It's quite redundant and I should change it.
I'm unfortunately not very knowledgable about xml and I don't know what "" or "namespace" mean. So, uh... yeah. Beats me.
Good luck on developing your new program. Please post back a link to it when it's complete. I'm not totally satisfied with what's out there right now for podcasting apps, so another entry to the field is eagerly anticipated.

Ok. Count me as listener #4 then. I've heard your last few sessions, and they are a perfect companion at 2a.m., especially #6. I'll be a listener forever. We need more musical podcasts like this. Check out mine, which is clearly rougher around the edges. But you may dig it.

Glad to hear you back. Enjoyed the Beach Boys stuff especially. I can prove that I listened, because I know you gave me a massive shout-out - bam!
